Our Joint care supplements for dogs taste very different to our equine joint care range. Our joint health supplement for horses has a molasses taste that horses love, and our canine joint health product tastes of real bacon.

There's nothing worse than investing in a high quality joint care supplement and finding that your horse won't eat it, or your dog turns up its nose!

That's why, after we had perfected the right mix of joint care actives for horses, and the right ratio to support joint health in dogs, we spent a LOT of time perfecting the flavour of each of our joint care supplement products, with different formulas to suit dogs and horses.

While many dogs are food focused and scoff down anything from your new mobile phone to designer high heels, a few are picky about what they eat and notice the smallest change in their daily meal.

Like dogs, horses also have a highly developed sense of smell, but unlike dogs they are well known for being extremely fussy about the taste of their feed.

This is most likely due to evolution. 

Wild dogs' highly acidic stomachs evolved to cope with meat often past its best, bone, random insects, and foraged titbits. On the other hand, a horse's gut tract is 30m long, and very sensitive, and horses survived by adapting to be very selective eaters who will avoid toxic plants and focus on plants with high nutrients in order to meet their large body's requirement for nourishment.

Do dogs like the taste of our canine joint care product?

Yes!

Over the years we have been making Canine Joint Plus for dogs, we have had amazing feedback from dog owners about the palatability of our canine joint product. A few people have reached out to and say their dog has objected to the addition of the supplement in their dinner... but after 7-14 days, almost all of those dogs quickly got used to the taste and went back to happily eating their meal each day, along with its dose of special joint care ingredients!

Do horses like the taste of our equine joint health product?

Yes!

For horses given our equine joint care supplement, the palatability results have been even better! Thanks to all the horses who taste tested various combinations during product development to find the ideal horse-friendly flavour, all but a very few of the fussiest horses enjoy the light molasses taste that our joint care product adds to their daily feed.

Feeding tips for our joint care supplements

To feed our joint care products to your dog, simply sprinkle their daily dose on their food, and if you think they are extra picky, mix it in.

For horses, add the joint care product to their feed bucket, dampen feed and mix.

Make sure that you've checked the daily dose rate, to ensure that your product lasts as long as it should.

Dogs up to 12kg only need half a teaspoon of Canine Joint Plus daily, so it's a very small amount. If your dog is dubious, you can start with 1/4 of a teaspoon and go to 1/2 a teaspoon after a week, but generally the key is just to make sure its well mixed into their food to begin with.

For a 500kg horse, we recommend 30g of Equine Joint Plus a day, and suggest a twice daily 30g dose for the first two weeks as a loading dose. If you're concerned your horse may object to a new supplement, you can start with 30g and do the loading phase once they are used to the taste.
